How to Get to Meanarra Hill

Meanarra Hill is a 10-minute drive from Kalbarri Town, making it an easy stop during your explorations. After travelling on the Kabarri Road, you’ll turn right onto the Meanarra Lookout Road. From the designated parking, it’s just a 150-metre walk along a paved walkway to Meanarra Hill. Between the car and back, you can expect a 300-metre walk in total.

What You’ll Experience at Meanarra Hill

Situated 207 metres above sea level, Meanarra Hill provides panoramic views of Kalbarri Town, the ocean, the mouth of the Murchison River, and even Kalbarri National Park. Sheltered seating makes admiring the incredible scenery even more pleasurable. At the summit, there is informative signage which provides more insight into the region, covering its culture, heritage, and nature.

If you’d like to do more exploring, you can also embark on the Malleefowl Trail Loop Walk. Named after the elusive native malleefowl that you may spot here, this trail is about 1.5 kilometres in total. It starts 100 metres along the walk to Meanarra Hill and is categorized as a Grade 3 trail. While it starts with a rocky section, it continues onto coastal heath and provides an immersive experience of Meanarra Hill.

In the area, you may often see goats or even spot the occasional emu. You may also see blooming flora, including grevilleas and guichenotia. Back on the hill, you can enjoy a delicious packed picnic after your walk.

For a truly spectacular experience, time your visit for sunset when Kalbarri is bathed in pink and golden light.

Attractions Near Meanarra Hill

Meanarra Hill is located right between Kalbarri Town and Kalbarri National Park, making it an excellent stop on your journey to the park. At Kalbarri National Park, you can see how the Murchison River Gorge formed over millions of years. Discover natural formations like Nature’s Window, which perfectly frames the river, and admire its zig-zagging pattern at Z Bend Lookout.

One of the most exciting attractions in the park is the Kalbarri Skywalk. This walkway extends 100 metres out above the gorge, providing a thrilling perspective of the river and park. There are two vantage points, jutting out at 17 metres and 25 metres each, practically suspending you in mid-air!

If you want to see more of the coast, you can take a drive south from Meanarra Hill along the breathtaking Kalbarri Coastal Cliffs. Here, you can see how the ocean has eroded the coastline and admire stunning formations like the Natural Bridge. Walks along the clifftops provide a tranquil experience, and the opportunity to spot migrating whales between June and November.
