Western Australia’s Best Viewpoints: An Epic Coral Coast Adventure

Western Australia’s Coral Coast is blessed with some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country, from towering red cliffs and sweeping river gorges to bubblegum-pink lakes and hills strewn with wildflowers. If you’re planning a trip north from Perth, this region is filled with lookout points that reward you with unforgettable views.

Here at D’Guy Journeys, we visit some of Western Australia’s best viewpoints through our Kalbarri Trips. From the heights of Kalbarri National Park to the quiet charm of Mullewa, here’s some of the major lookout points to visit on your Coral Coast adventure. And if you have any questions about our trips, don’t hesitate to contact us

Rise Above the Landscape at Kalbarri Skywalk

Suspended 100 metres above Kalbarri National Park, the Kalbarri Skywalk is the kind of viewpoint that leaves you breathless. Two cantilevered platforms extend far beyond the cliff’s edge, giving you the sensation of floating above the gorge. Interpretive signage shares the stories of the landscape and Aboriginal culture, while the Skywalk Cafe lets you linger with a coffee as you soak in the panorama.

Early morning and late afternoon are best for softer light and fewer crowds. However, the Skywalk also serves as the ultimate vantage point for the night sky! Join our Kalbarri Stargazing Tour for an unparalleled experience along the Coral Coast.

Frame the Gorge at Nature’s Window

A short drive from the Skywalk, Nature’s Window is Kalbarri’s most iconic natural viewpoint. This Tumblagooda sandstone arch perfectly frames the river gorge below, creating a picture-perfect scene. For adventurers, this is also the trailhead for the nine-kilometre Loop Walk, which delves deeper into the gorge. If you want some tips on how to capture this incredible phenomenon, read our Photography Lover’s Guide to Western Australia’s Coral Coast.

Twist and Turn at Z Bend Lookout

Another highlight of Kalbarri National Park, Z Bend Lookout provides a sweeping view of where the Murchison River curves sharply through the gorge. The lookout walk is short and accessible, but those looking for more adventure can descend into the gorge on the Z Bend River Trail, scrambling over rocks and ladders to reach the water’s edge.

If you plan on hiking further beyond the lookout, make sure to wear sturdy shoes. For more tips on planning your visit, check out our Top 5 Things to Know Before You Visit Kalbarri National Park

Catch the Sunset at Meanarra Hill

Just outside the inland entrance to Kalbarri National Park, Meanarra Hill offers a panoramic view of the Kalbarri region. Perched 207 metres above sea level, from here you can see as far as the Murchison River mouth and the Indian Ocean. With sheltered seating, you can perch comfortably to admire the setting sun. Bring a picnic and some champagne for a toast to a beautiful day in Kalbarri.

Discover Coastal Drama at Natural Bridge, Island Rock & Red Bluff

Kalbarri National Park extends along the shoreline with the dramatic Coastal Cliffs. While there are numerous viewpoints to enjoy here, the most notable include the Natural Bridge, Island Rock, and Red Bluff.

Close to Kalbarri town, Red Bluff rises 100 metres above the ocean, making it a fantastic vantage point for spotting migrating whales between June and November. Further south, the Natural Bridge and Island Rock showcase the sheer forces of the ocean. The Natural Bridge is a striking arch carved by the sea, while nearby Island Rock juts out as a solitary sea stack. Admire the Surreal Pink Lake

Less than an hour’s drive from Kalbarri, one of the most unmissable viewpoints along the Coral Coast awaits. Few natural sights are as surreal as Hutt Lagoon, known as “Pink Lake”, which gets its famous colour thanks to the presence of algae that produces beta carotene. Its hues shift between bubblegum pink, lilac, and red depending on the time of day and the cloud cover.

Try stopping here around midday on a sunny day for the most vivid colours. And for a one-of-a-kind viewpoint, send up a drone or, better yet, take a scenic flight over the lake. Learn more about this incredible natural phenomenon with our Guide to Visiting Hutt Lagoon

Explore a Natural Spectacle at Mullewa Scenic Lookout

In the small town of Mullewa, the Mullewa Scenic Lookout is a rewarding stop if you’re travelling inland. This hilltop view stretches over the vast plains and provides interpretive signage about the area. It marks the beginning and end point of the Mullewa Bushland Trail, which comes alive during wildflower season. Between the months of July and October, this town becomes a major wildflower hotspot you won’t want to miss. Learn more in our blog about the Best Wildflowers in Western Australia
